302 head question
i was looking to see what the cc's of heads were. i have a pair of factory heads from an 85 F-series, but i also have some other options. jonzo has a pair of E7 heads from a 93 thunderbird 5.0HO, and i have no idea what they are either. if someone could find or create a list of them for me by year, or casting number that would be cool with me...
Thank You in advance

i8 was told they were shaved down for the HO which made the piston to valve clearance too close for comfort. i just want to keep my stock pistons...

ashzo, i have what i call "the bible new testament" it is a book called High Performance Ford by George Reid. It has a chart with the production numbers and cc's listed on page 47. if you go to I believe the ford muscle magazine. you may be able to access the info through their website. But just buy the book, and if you can find the "old Testiment-How to Rebuild Your Big Block Ford" by Steve Christ, that is a great help for older big blocks too.
Hope this helps.
btw if you give me the the casting numbers , I can look it up, too.
the ho motor has either 67-70 cc for up to 1985 and the 86 up has 62-65 cc.

i'm not sure if it will help with a small block, but i'm sure there is another one just for them too...

i have been told that it only takes minor modifications (machine shop time) to make them work on a 351 is this not the case.

this is going the other way, trhaus. 351 to 302. the thunderbird heads were made for the 351W, shaved down from 67cc for the 351 to 60.6cc on the 5.0HO, but bolt in without modification to the block.

351w heads on a 302 will need collared head bolts. 351w use larger diameter bolts than 302s.

but why did the standard 302 bolts fit in there perfectly when we used them in the thunderbird? we even had good compression... nothing was added to them...

302s use 7/16" bolts and 351s use 1/2" bolts.

It was 1984 when I last modified a 351 head but if my memory is correct I had to drill steam holes in the 5.8 heads to use them on my 289. Seems like the holes were centered and above the combustion chambers. I just layed the 289 head gasket on the head and marked the holes for drilling. Milling is necessary too in order to maintain compression. 1984, gees I'm old. Now I'm thinkin of the Van Halen titled album.
