Flex Pipe replacement new

OK I didnt know that you can just buy the flex pipe part of the exhaust in the past so I always replaced the whole pipe.

I Found this out when my Sisters Escort ZX2's pipe broke. She didnt have the cash to pump out almost $200 for a new pipe so I was going to go old school and get some of that old style flex pipe until I found the exact type replacement flex pipe that rotted out on her car.

Man if I knew this before I could have saved myself some cash plenty of times.

This is a Walker 42216 flex pipe.

Walker is a very good product,
In fact my Sister is getting a Walker Cat conveter on her on her Chev Z-24 tonight.
I sold walker products way back in the 60,s

When the flex pipe on my winnie went out, I didn't even look at it. (After I did my second exhaust lying on my back in the street when I was about 18, I swore off doing exhausts (and getting rust in my eyes)); I took the van to my local mechanic for a referral to an exhaust specialty shop.

They offered me four options from cheapest up:
1. cut the old out and put a pipe in its place... there would be another problem within the year, but was the cheapest solution
2. cut out the old and put in a used flex pipe,
3. cut out the old and put in a new "universal" flex pipe
4. cut out the old and put in a new OEM flex pipe.

I went with option #3.
I expect that flex pipe will outlast the rest of the van. hehe.

I sat in the waiting area for an hour, but once they got the van on the lift, 30 minutes later, the new one was all welded in place. I don't recall... $150 ? definitely less than $200.

Flex pipe used to be the cure all back in the day.
I swore off exhaust and springs also cos of the rust in the eye!

Dom,Back in the day the flex pipe we used was totally different than the one we use today. The old was to bend, the new is to absorb vibrations and flexing from engine torqueing.

I have used Walker exclusively since I was 16. Sometimes I use NAPA Soundmaster but it really is Walker renamed.

Walker is the best but the warranty sucks. My exhaust never breaks, it just rots out and that is not covered by warranty.
