My 2004 taurus revs 600 rpm's every five seconds, If I'm at a light the car will lunge forward. I also have trouble code P1633- keep alive memory volt low. I had the battery and alternator checked and the test said the battery was good but needed a charge and this was right after I drove it for half an hour. The alternator also checked out with the test that was performed while it was in the car. I think maybe the alternator may not be good after all. All the fuses are good and I charged the battery all day and it is still happening. Any suggestions?

The "Keep Alive Memory" is a function of the adaptive learn strategy. The ECM will "learn" your driving habits and adapt to give the best performance/economy possible. Loss of the this voltage will cause the ECM to keep "going back to mama". In other words, it is losing all of its learned strategies. These also include adjustments for sensor degradation. Every time I have to disconnect the battery on my 2001 Taurus, my car does this until it stabilizes again. If you are having to charge your battery on a daily basis or every other day, then you definitely have a charging/battery issue with the car. My first thought of the problem is how old is the battery? If it is the OE battery, REPLACE IT. Regardless of what a tester is saying. The OE batteries didn't last long and most batteries only last 5-6 years anyways. Cold and heat will kill batteries. I replaced more batteries at the beginning of summer and winter than any other time of the year. Sudden heat or sudden cold was usually death on weak batteries. I even had this happen to me on my Taurus. I was traveling in the mountains and got caught in a sudden snow storm. Killed my battery in about 10 minutes. The charging system was fine. Just a weak battery that couldn't stand the cold.
