Just so I know, do MAFS go out all at once or do they slowly croak over a long period of time? And if slow death is their path, what happens as far as the engine performance goes? I noticed that my Aerostar was equipped with a K&N filter and I understand, from my experience with VW diesels, that K&N's will crap up the MAF because of over-oiling or whatever. I intend to deep six the filter at the first opportunity and install a regular Ford filter.
The car seems to run alright but the gas mileage is down-right ugly in town.
Autozoner sells a MAF cleaner aerosol that leaves no residue. It reduced over-rich running in our '93 Jaguar. It can't hurt. I sure wouldn't want oil upstream of a MAF.
