Remote Oil Filter

The oil filter on my 2005 Ranger 3.0 is a real pain to change neatly in my driveway. My 1994 3.0 Ranger the filter would come out from the bottom, but the '05 has a plate to keep it from going that way. You can reach it from the top if you have arms a bit longer than mine, and then once it is reached from a step stand, installation is a bother to get the threads started right. Is there an aftermarket kit that would move the oil filter to a remote location for ease of service. There is plenty of room to mount it back from the starter (maybe to the frame with braided hoses). I do not have many speed shops or big aftermarket stores in my area, so I thought I would start here first. I use Mobil 1, 5W-20 oil and change oil twice a year, but it still is a hassle to me.

Yep try Summit Racing or JEGS Performance Auto Parts - Holley - Billet Specialties - Edelbrock - MSD - Moroso - Mr Gasket they both sell quality kits for relocating oil filters.

How many miles are you putting on the car between changes? Even with synthetic oils, I don't think I would push any engine past about 3000-3500 miles between changes. It is too cheap of insurance to protect the motor. Just a lowly mechanics point of view. If you feel you don't need to change but 2 times a year with the synthetics, that is after all your prerogative.

Thanks for the oil advice....I do about 7000 between changes and in 100,000 no problems. My 1994 Rangewr 3.0 was still very good with no oil usage or leaks at 160,000. My 1998 F-150 4.6 went to 160 before I sold her and all held Mobil 1 in the bottom end. Never a tick, never a drip in amy of them. Using the Motorcraft 5-W20 Semi in my 2005 500 (always been dealer serviced), even the dealer says 5000 for that vehicle. I use to buy into the 3000 mile idea, but oil is so much better than even 10 years ago and engines are built a lot better too. My first Ford (1948 Flatheadautomotive in the very late 50's) seemed to change its own oil, and when I was in the automotive service business in the 70's I sold a lot of 3000 mile oil.

Thanks for the advice though, but I'll stick to my higher mileage schedule...

There have been many tests that run more than 10K on oil then test it against the specs for new oil. Most all oils will pass that test at 10K. The only thing I have against synthetics is in older vehicles it will tend to leak more than say a 10 weight high mileage oil.
