4x4 will not engage f150

Hey I have a 2006 F150 4x4. When I turn the key to the on position to start the truck all my dash lights will light up including 4x4 which is normal. However, once truck is running, only once in a while will the 4x4 light come on if I try to engage 4x4. Most the time the light will not come on and with that being said I have no clue if I have power to my front end. Anyone else have this problem or know what could be wrong.

I'm guessing that there is a shift solinoid in the transfercase and that it may have a bad connection. At least that is the first thing that I would look for.

Recently had the same issue with my 04 f150. There is a vacuum solenoid on the right side of the firewall for the 4x4, mine was not functioning causing the same issue your having. Replace that solenoid and you should be back in business. Its around 60 bucks

Also check the engagement motor on the transfer case, looks like a wiper motor on the back of it. Should have a 3 or 4 wire harness plug that goes into it. I have the same year truck and when I had an issue like this I found the contacts were dirty cause my plug was a bit loose. Hope this helps
