Windstar plugs

This is a discussion on Windstar plugs within the Engine & Drivetrain forum, part of the Ford Tech Support category; the plugs in our 2004 windy have never been changed in 140000 km, so its probably time it looks like ...

the plugs in our 2004 windy have never been changed in 140000 km, so its probably time

it looks like the rear bank is a real pain

suggestions?

Get a gripper for the plug boots to remove them. Look at the cowl removal on the Windstar stickies. Accessing the rear plugs is easy once you've done it a couple of times. I let mine go too long the first time on a Windy, and it fried the coil when the gap got too wide.

I agree... cowel removal makes it a lot easier.

I laid a couple of sheets of cardboard over the top of the engine, and then kinda hugged the engine to get at plug #1. You have to be good at being able to "see" with your hands. I have found that sometimes it is easier if you close your eyes.

You may want to also change spark plug wires while your in the back, for a one shot do it all while your in there. 140000km is also a lot for plug wires. You will thank yourself on down the road.
