The Long LONG Goodbye

I know you've read it all before, but perhaps not from this perspective. I grew up around cars...primarily police cars. So the Crown Vic was like part of the family. It's sad to see it go, even though it's well past its prime. Check out the full "obituary" at the link below and add your comments here. I'd like to hear your memories of the last of the "real" American cars.

My niece is a state trooper who still drives a CV. Some of her peers drive the new Charger, while some of the cars are still Crown Vics. She loves the CV over the Charger, the only thing she hates about it is that it is a "Grandma's Car". (She's only in her 20s, so other people's perception of her is still big in her mind) If you look at the repair history between the two, you will find that the police Charger is in the shop getting repaired much more than the police CV and that the CV's lifetime repair and maintenance costs will be much lower. The people who love the Charger brag that it has a higher top end of 150+, while the CV's top end was about 130. I would have thought that they could have taken away the electronic speed limiter and beefed up the engine slightly to compensate for that.
Whatever.
It's what you call "progress".

Yes it is a sad thing to let fade away. I was also sad when Pontiac and Oldsmobile were killed too.
