Rear window leaking on 2009

I continually have problems with the rear window leaking from the top. The seal collects lots of dust and unless it stays pristine, drops of water will leak in from car washes and the like. Anyone else?

Wash off the dust, allow to dry. Apply silicone spray to the rubber seals. The leak should stop overnight, if not the seals may need to be replaced.

Mine did it, I had a new seal installed under warranty and it has been ok since. Cuda's advice is good too, I do something like that to keep it maintained.

Mine leaked when I first got it. A swift cleaning and it hasn't leaked since. I also clean the seals when I wash the vehicle. Seems like 1 particle of dirt can force it to leak.

My Escape leaks around the rear window too.. Guess I will have to make sure I wipe down the seal next time I wash it..

My 2010 Rear window leaks. I have had the seal replaced twice at this point and going for the 3rd this week. It does seem that just a little dust does cause the seal to leak. After the last seal replacement it is now worse then before leaking across the entire top of the window.

I have discovered the real issue with the seal. The way the glass closes, it pushes down on the seal (not just "in"). Over time the gasket gets deformed and does not seal well.

The solution I've found (after cleaning both the seal and the glass and applying a light coat of silicone dressing to the seal) is to open the full liftgate and use a finger or something thin like a smooth popsicle stick, to gently push the seal up into its proper position. Do this with the glass latched. Works like a charm to stop the leaks.

This is not a great soultion for those that use the window a lot....I tend to use the full tailgate only.

My '09 Escape leaks only on the top left side of the rear glass. Cleaning the rubber seal seems to stop the leak, but I have to clean it every time I open the rear glass. So I keep a rag to wipe the seal and glass each and every time I open the lift glass.

Odd that it only occurs on the left side. Makes me think a replacement seal might improve the situation.
