2009 Escape noise with AC on and slow acceleration

I have a 2009 Escape 4WD 2.5l XLT. When I have the AC on and slowly accelerate, I get a noise that at first I thought might be engine knock. However, I am now not sure, it comes from the engine. If I give my Escape more gas or let off the gas, the noise goes away. Also, when driving along at about 30mph, if I start to climb a hill, I get the noise. As before, if I give the Escape more or less gas, the noise goes away. Is anyone else experiencing a similar noise/situation?

I have a 2010 Mariner 4 cyl engine and it has something similiar: droaning noise at 1300 rpm while accelerating or going up a hill, only when the AC is on. Noise goes away if I slow down or speed up. Appears to be happening when the transmission shifts to a higher gear for fuel economy and then when I accelerate it sounds like its in the wrong gear. Actually there is no performance degredation just the noise. Anybody know of a fix?
