EPAS (electronic power assist steering)2009 Escape
Monday it was -20F. The Escape started but no power steering. Drove approximately five miles and decided to return home.
Called the local Ford dealer to have it checked out, approximately 1/2 hr later with vehicle setting in the sun the steering now works normally.
Friday the dealer says Ford received many complaints similar to mine with the low temperature steering problem. The steering column is scheduled to be replaced.

Wow ! Hopefully I'll never see -20 , I've had mine down close to 0 with no problems .

The only problem that I've heard of with EPAS was with '09 Hybrids, three to be exact and that was momentary loss of EPAS.

Windchill only affects warm blooded creatures like us.

Yeah, just wanted to clarify the -7 was the real temp (and not a windchill temp)

I understand but to a vehicle, windchill means nothing.
