You may try starting at all connections to the battery and grounds and make sure you look at the small wire going to your work solenoid on the starter.

Did you check to see if the starter itself was tight on the engine.
The Yellow wire on the above starter picture has been a problem.

Did you ever get your truck started?
If so, what did you find?

Dead short in the starter, but when I replaced the starter some how the polarity of the system was reversed and I have never seen that before

Run the battery down to nothing and use a charger and make sure that the positive is on the pos. post of the battery. A dead battery can be charged backwards or if jumped off with the pos cable hooked to the negative post on the dead battery and engine started the truck will charge it backwards.

It is better to have loved a short than never have loved a tall. Love many, trust few and always paddle your own canoe.
Love is being owned by a Siberian Husky or two.
