Will inline fuel filter cause strain??

Today i was driving on the freeway, then pull into gas station to fill up
pop hood to check oil. I notice that the clear inline fuel I put between the fuel line from the tank to the fuel pump was dry as bone but car still idle
a few secs later the filter filled up with fuel. My question is will the inline filter cause the fuel pump to be put under strain or run lean?.Fuel pump is on block just install new one couple weeks ago.main reason I put filter before pump is because i got bad gas with touch of sand and some trash.few weeks ago

I imagine that it would be better for the pump to trap sand particles before they get to the pump, than it would be a problem for the pump to be running under a slightly greater pressure differencial due to a slow flow of fuel to it.

If you think that filter is getting clogged in the short period of time that you put it on there, you may want to put a larger filter on there so that you have to change it less often, and consider pulling the tank and having it cleaned out at a radiator shop.

Might be, have you done a carb rebuild ? I would do that next...might be just the carb.

I believe that mechanical pumps are usually around 5-8 psi.
I really don't think that a clean filter will cause it to run lean.
I think that you can only blow by mouth about 1 psi, and you can blow through a filter therefore there is ample reserve pressure for the pump to handle it without issue.

yes ,
carb has been rebuild, new fuel pump, plugs, wires, cap and rotor button been replaced. egr was clogged up cleaned and tested with hand vac pump gauge showed 5 psi to open plunger.could it still be bad? gutted cat and installed new muffler.car has good take off power til you get on freeway
crusing about 55 mph punch the gas and it has no power and valves rattle.going up hills speed drops to 45 mph feels like its holding bad kick in passing gear engine revs up but doesn't increase speed avg speed on freeway is about 65 mph at best
on moderate grade.i have not touch the timing on the disturber.
when you rev engine up and look at the vac advance it moves.might tee into vac line going egr with gauge to check at hwy speed.valves rattle only on open throttle.

also found a good deal on some mustang pony wheels 16x7
for $100.00 from someone in my area they are going to let me
take a wheel for test fit before buying. on mustangs the tire size was 225/60-16 i think. i have access to some used tires that are 205/55-16 that might clear fenders if there is a problem. i have to wait and see.if they will work.

taking fuel filter off did'nt change a thing and mess with the timing no luck still losing power at hwy speed. guess i will spend the 50.00 for egr see if it helps. i will be running the highest octane gas i can find with octane booster til i get the egr.i mean no racing fuel just 93 with bottle of 104 booster.
