The tag has been decoded...the verdict is in...survey say.......

the decoded vin tag plate shows this...

Body: 64A = 2 door bench
Color: M = Corinthian White
Trim: 23 = Green Vinyl and Green Nylon faced fabric
Date: 16M = December 16th 1959
DSO: ? = ?
Axle: 1 = 3.56:1 non locking differential
Trans: 1 =3 speed manual floor shift
Vehicle Warranty Number:
0K11S 131439
this decodes as a kansas city, kansas built car and came with the oh so spectacular 144 cubic inch OHV 6 banger, and was the 31,439th car to roll off the line. this is why i love old cars...with old cars not only do you get something that was well built and is still here but you get a birth certificate telling you what she has(had). new cars...well i think im drinking out of one now...says budlight on the side...cars now just are not built to stand the test of time.

that is correct...im gonna look at the tag again and look around the car some more to find out...judging by the condition of the car it has to be a west coast or southwest car because it has only a few whisps of rust that i can see...ill know more as i clean it up.

to my knowledge the falcon only has one tag and its on the drivers side door edge... its the vin tag and also it contains all the trim and all the other info that tells you about the car...there are no tags or plates anywhere on the firewall and no place where one would go...i know gm has tags on the firewall known as cowl tags but i have yet to find any info on the web that would point out any other tags for this year make and model.

i've seen them on the firewall of Galaxies... it's not like the sticker, but a plate with numbers and letters raised on it.
[Quote] RE: vin # location -1964 galaxie Warranty plate ID is on the driver door. VIN is under the hood at the firewall on the upper drivers side.[Quote]
http://lbcunited.com/earlyford2/imag...DATA-PLATE.jpg something like this, sometimes right under the fender...
on my fairmont it was supposed to be on the upper radiator support

there is no tags on the firewall area or fenderwell area on this little beast...i was told that there are numbers stamped directly into the firewall metal or inner fenderwell and i gotta tell you guys...nothing...no hole patterns that would suggest that a lable was ever rivited there or anything....now this car does have a mustang II front suspension setup swapped in therefore there is an absense of shock towers and the outriggers that go to the center of the firewall. im gonna be pulling the fenders here in the next week to start cleaning and then repainting everything a nice gloss black so ill look under the fender edge to top rail when i do so to see if its there. the serial number on the door tag should be the vin number which is only 11 characters which sounds right since my 72 nova had 13 and current cars have 17+ due to the amount of cars built over the years. if anyone has one of these cars(60-63) and knows where exactly to look it would help because now im getting nervous as to where it would be. car is clean and off the dmv books(last reg 1999) so i know its not hot...already had my aunt run the plate since she is a cop and its clean.

ive seen "district sales office" as well as the meaning for "dso"...all i know is its blank and my car has only one tag that is giving me info and serial(vin) number and its the drivers door tag...all the details of the car match the decode of the tag so its not just another door from another 1960 falcon. im hoping when i pull the fenders i will find someting stamped into the rail under the fender...car is missing the shock towers and braces so if it was stamped on them then they are gone forever...lets hope the dmv dont have an issue with it when i get the car going...i got a buddy with the chp that came out and verified my '68 olds 442 when i got it running...i think he was more concerned with the 10.5 chassis and the big slicks than the fact the car was off the books since 1991....god i miss that car....i seem to have the orphan puppy/cat syndrom...i cant let the pound pick it up so i bring it home and make it healthy then get the tags...tell me im not the only one.

you're not alone brother!

if it's a 60, doesn't that mean it's grandfathered in for codes, and emissions in CA?
when i was stationed at Miramar, i just kept my permanent address in WI, as well as the registration of my car(s) so i didn't have to deal with emissions BS...

1975 and older is smog exempt here in california. this great state still thinks its all the old cars on the road making all the smog...guess they are not taking in consideration the hundreds of thousands of honda civics/accords and toyota camrys/corollas on the road....its literally a 10to 1 ratio....conveinient scapgoating really....i guess 1 old car polutes more that 10 "green" cars

No It is Dealer Special Option or Dealer Special Order.
That's a way of tracking A Special built Vehicle.
You get the plant by the vin#
Lets say you have an Ambulance package where the Cab is Ford but the rest of it was special built.

1 lawnmower still pollutes more than 10 cars. are they gonna start testing them too?

These are not Chebbies, when Ford states "DSO" it ALWAYS means "District Sales Office". Special trim packages are listed elsewhere.

Since the car was built in Kansas it was sold in either Kansas or a surrounding state, nothing exotic involved. The closest DSO that comes to my mind is Dallas, can't recall if there was a kentucky/Tenn. assembly line (old age is catching up with me).

As for the stamped VIN in the engine compartment, it is along the top of the splash panel, sometimes hidden under the edge of the fender. Ford varied between having a small "window" cutout in the fender and no window, again I can't remember which years had what. Sometimes the replacement fenders (made by Budd Stamping for Ford) had windows when the production parts didn't.

My question is this: If you are talking about the car in the photo then why does the data state it is white with green interior????

Oh, if the interior rubber floor mat is still present you should find a "build sheet" under the passenger side of the front seat, sometimes it is held by the seat springs, sometimes under the mat. The build sheet tells everything about the car's construction is is the data that cops love to find in stolen/stripped cars.

Buty what do I know, I'm driving a Chebbie for lack of other transportation...

You are partly correct.
If your DSO is 2 digit that's fine it tells you What District it was from.and was a stock RPO vehicle.
If you have a 6 Digit DSO the first 2 tells you the District office the last 4 tells you it's a special ordered vehicle and you have to use that number when ordering parts that are not in the catalouge.
Trust me on this I fought with it for 36 years.
