2000 Focus 2.0L DOHC - Mysterious Coolant Leak

I have a coolant leak that does not show up while driving and teh coolant loss varies all the time from almost noe to a quart. I think it only happens on cool down and shows up on the driver's side of teh car.
I checked all the hoses and added a regular clamp on the heater hose at the thermostat housing. I saw dampness and it looked like the constant tension clamp was leaking.

This car has 10 hoses and about 18 possible leak points! I'm leaning towards a leak around the funny looking thermsotat housing as it has a radiator hose, a heater hose and a hose going to the degas bottle. Anybody had this experience and fixed it? My car is in Boston with my daughter so I can't look at it until she gets back.

You probably have a leaking thermostat housing, not too uncommon in this vehicle. The plastic inner ring on it cracks. The part number is YS4Z+8592-BD. Not too bad to change out.

Very common in the Focus with a Zetec. The isn't one made that didn't have this problem.
Thermostat Housing?

x2! That's probably it. Mine also (in addition) leaked at the plastic heater tube on the radiator.

Someone said the Ford Contour fits the Focus and is a better design. Might want to check into it.

hey guys thanks, same problem here with coolant leak, only leaks on cool down when thermostat closes, figured out when thermostat opens it seals off port to the bypass hose,so leaks stops,it will drain overflow tank but not drain all the antifreeze because housing sets op high enough to prevent that.SO THEMOSTAT HOUSING IT IS.
