anyone use Avgas?

I had problems in the beginning with premium unleaded fuel in my 63 427. because of the compression, no matter what i set the timing, i could hear a slight ping. I tried avgas and all problems went away. I can find on difference between racing fuel and avgas except for the octane rating and price. octane rates about 104-106. racing is only 2 or 3 points higher, but avgas is $1.50 - $2.00 higher. That makes avgas only a dollar higher than unleaded premium. its also more available. We use avgas primarily in air boats that use air cooled engines that look like the old style vw motors.
I would like any input on this use or any warnings you guys might have.
thanks in advance

trhaus will become famous soon enough
I was talking with the car club at our meeting last night and i brought up your question. the general concensus was that avgas is 115 octane. and is of high quality. a few of members or also pilots and have experemented with avgas in their own cars. due to availabilitly of avgas on the road they have all went away from using it and some have switched to a water-meth system. as for warnings they only cautioned about availabiltly on trips and using it in a motor that doesnt require that level of octane.
