ipod hookup/aftermarket stereo in 2005 Taurus?

Has anyone installed any sort of aftermarket stereo or made an ipod hookup for their 2005 Taurus? I've been to Best Buy and Crutchfield, and they both say no aftermarket options exist.

The problem is both the passenger airbag and the rear defrost are routed through the stereo/HVAC faceplate, and the aftermarket faceplates have only the rear defrost, so I would lose my passenger airbag. Don't want that.

If I can't install an aftermarket stereo, I would still like to install an ipod (or rather auxiliary jack). Has anyone wired one in?

Check out website WWW.v8sho.com and search for instructions for I-pod Installation.

Also check out website WWW.Installer.com

I think you will find exactly what you are looking for.

I have not made the mod YET but it is on the to do list, Good luck

Thanks for the info. Not sure about the first link since I don't have a tape player, but the second link has a faceplate that might work! I'm going to call them this week and ask a few questions, thank you!

Talked to the folks at installer.com about the faceplate they sell. I couldn't see much detail on the picture on their website so I asked for a better picture and they emailed me a different photo. They want $60 for the faceplate, kinda steep so I said I would think about it.

I decided to go back to Crutchfield to see if I somehow missed it, and sure as heck they have the same faceplate. Infact, the picture they use is identical to the one installer.com emailed me.

Crutchfield wants $99 for it, however, if you buy a radio for $120 or more they will take 50% off the faceplate, so that makes it cheaper. I might go that route afterall.

I had the Ford Dealership wire an i pod connection in before I took delivery of my 2007 Focus. It consists of a jack with an on-off switch mounted on the inside of the glove compartment. It plays thru the OEM am, fm, cd unit. when I use the i-pod wire runs out of glovebox and i-pod sits in cupholder. You might check a dealship to see if this set up will work for your car.

No kidding, I think I'll give them a call and see if they can do that. If they can do it for an hour of labor or less that would be best.
