Coolsystem problems '99 Taurus

Here is my problem.

As long I run the engine I don't have problems.
But if I stop the engine my coolsystme empty itself.
I did drive this morning 60 miles no problems.
My system was full before I left.
When I parked the car steam came from under the hood and the pavement got wet.
I didn't have time to check where it came from but I almost know for sure that the coolant tank busted.
It happend 3x more the last year.
I did flush the coolsystem, replaced the thermostat and replaced the coolant tank 3 times.
Why is it doing this "sometimes"?

Did you bleed the air out of the cooling system?

I usually let the engine run till it gets hot with the radiator cap off, the coolant expands this way.

Question.... Are you using a stock rated radiator cap?

The tank on that car has the cap on it? Cant remember when they changed it.

If the radiator cap is on the tank I bet you are running a higher psi cap than recommended.

Yes the tank has a radiator cap. It is the orginal cap that cam with the tank.
I just don't understand that as long the engine runs the coolant stays in there and a soon I stop the engine it release it all.

The recommended cap pressure is 16psi. A higher pressure cap is not made.

The Taurus is self bleeding. Often the reservoir is technically referred to as a 'DeGas Bottle".
They are not prone to trapped air as in other makes and models.
Unless the small bleed lines are full of rust....

You may be leaking from the water pump. A worn water pump is capable of leaking intermittently, sometimes it can be quite a large leak, other times it can stop. The 3.0 (U) Taurus do have rust issues, and this may be part of your problem as well.

To have repeated coolant tank failures, I would suspect fan problems, water flow problems (water pump), or poor quality material being used to produce the tank. What brand of tank did you buy? Generally they will last many years. I have replaced more than twenty, always from the Ford Dealer, and never had a repeat failure.

I already changed the waterpomp 6 months ago.

But this is wat happend later after I parked the car and steam and coolant left the car.
I did pick up my car (parked at the airport for a couple of days) I had to add 1,5 gln water (had it with me just incase) I could drive for about 40 miles when the engine started to run hot. When checking it there was steam coming out of the sealed top of the coolant-tank. Added more water and made it home (20 more miles)
Next day I check the compression of the cylinders. Here are the results # 1 90psi, #2 75psi, #3 75psi, #4 90psi, #5 75psi and #6 60psi. So clearly there is something not right. I do not know what the right pressure is but a difference of more then 30% seems a little high.
So I started to remove both heads hoping to find something inside.

I keep you posted.

Definately sounds like a head gasket. To bad you started tearing it apart, you could have had the cooling system checked for exhaust gases to be sure.
