2005 Excursion rear heat issue

When running the front and rear a/c if I turn the front temp control to heat it will switch to heat. When I turn the rear controls to heat it keeps blowing cold and under the passenger dash/floorboard area you can here what sounds like an electric actuator running and making a clicking sound like it's trying to open the valve to the heater core. It will click a dozen times or so for about a minute and then stop and then a few minutes later it will try again but never any rear heat.

My guess is a stripped gear, but you'll find out when you take it apart eh?

Behind the glove box there are 2 actuators and the one on the right is making the clicking sound so I removed the cover over the heater core and was able to physically push on the blend door while it was making the clicking sound and it moved and started controlling. I got rear A/C and heat control back so I put it back together. The next day I drove it and now I can only get A/C out of the dash, no heat. So what ever I did just moved the problem to the dash. I found a pic of the actuator on the internet but I can't find anybody that sells one (dealer only) and I'm fine with that but I don't know how to get it out. I removed the only visible screw but it still won't move. The pic I found suggests to remove the front screw then lift up on the right side and then the left but I feel like I'm going to break something. Has any body done this before. Is this pic from the service manual, I have the factory Ford one and I can't find it, what page is it on or are there any instructions to go with it.

Some thoughts;
The white "accuator" contains a motor, gears, and is connected to the "blend-air door. The door is swung to the fore or aft to close either the flow of hot air or cold air (A/C). It is a common problem for the blend air door to break at the connection with the motor. The accuator is generally held down with three screws, or it snaps down on three (or four) plastic pins. Yours looks like it is held with screws. Use a small mirror to help you locate all of the screws. You can actuate the motor with a nine volt battery if you connect to the right pins. Go to the web site, http://www.heatertreater.net/Ford and you may find some helpful information and pictures, etc. If you accuator motor is working OK then you may have a blend air door problem. The door axel, which is plastic, breaks at the connection. This company has a solution that is much easier than removing the dash, discharging the A/C, and draining the coolant, in order to get at the heater/A/C box and plennum in order to change the blend air door. I have no interest in this company, but I have used their product successfully and would recommend the product as a fix to a broken blend air door. I do not know if they make a door for your specific vehicle, but they do make several for differnt Fords IIR.

So I replaced the electric actuator. No more clicking and I have dash A/C and Heat. I have rear A/C but I only have rear heat if I have the dash set to heat also. It didn't used to be like that, I could operate all HVAC controls independantly. I'm OK with it for now but I think my next step will be to turn it over to the dealer.

And there are 2 screws on the actuator. One in the front and one on top, you just can't see it. Then you turn the acuator counter clockwise and the lift up. The exploded view from the parts department at the Ford dealer allowed me to see all this. It's weird that those pics aren't in the service manual.

Thanks for all the replies.
