2002 Windstar AC Compressor

I have a question about my 2002 Windstar Compressor. The pulley on it is very wobbly and makes a loud noise. (it is not plugged in and the system has been discharged) I have a brand new compressor and was wondering since the belt has to go around this , would it hurt the new compressor to just put it on, leave it unplugged and the lines capped until next year? I am scared the pulley is going to fall apart and cause my belt to fly off. Thanks.

If you leave the new compressor unplugged after installation, and make sure that the refrigerant port and line openings are sealed well it should be fine to use just the clutch pulley assembly as a belt guide.I would 1st fill it with pag oil to keep the moisture away from the new internals of the compressor. How about getting a cheap junkyard compressor with a good clutch for a temporary unit for the belt? That would save your new compressor until you want to install it.

Thanks for the reply. I was going to get one from a junkyard but the junkyard here wants a hundred bucks for one. New one was 85 more. So, I just couldn't see paying almost the same price for a junk one as a new one. I would rather just get a shorter belt and bypass it, but I am not sure if that is even possible. The new compressor was already purchased, and I just wanted to make sure if it was sealed up and not plugged in, if it would be okay till next summer. Thanks.

You will be fine. Like I said, it would not hurt to over fill it with oil and just dump it out before doing the final hookup in the spring.
