Steering Wheel Covers

Has anyone used Wheelskins leather steering wheel covers? This is one that you actually stitch on like a factory cover instead of wrapping the lace around the outside.

What are your thoughts on cutting back the original cover around the spokes to allow the new cover to be tucked in like the factory?

I don't know about cutting it back but I had a 50 Ford p/u and It had a little larger wheel (I think) than was really intended for that cover. My wife says " No Problem" soaked it in Hot water with just a bit of chamois soap and stretched it on and stitched away. When it dried it was like it had been made on there. I had the truck another 10 years and sold it to a buddy (5 years ago) and that dang cover is still there!!!!!!

It is better to have loved a short than never have loved a tall. Love many, trust few and always paddle your own canoe.
Love is being owned by a Siberian Husky or two.

I dont know why I have never thought of the "soak it in hot water" trick. That seems so simple and sounds like it works too. I am always struggling with my cover(s), but I have found that you get what you pay for.

I completely forgot about this thread. I purchased one of the Wheelskins about 6 months ago and love it. It took about an hour to stitch up using the basic stitch. It would have taken much longer doing the baseball style stitch. I think the Wheelskin cost about $50 but is well worth every penny. Just make sure there are not any little pieces of leather from the lacing holes inside the cover. I missed one and see it every time I drive the car but I am a bit of a perfectionist. If it was my car I would probably cut the lacing to remove it and stitch it back on but it’s my wives daily driver ...it doesn’t bother her.

I'm intrigued. My car has the spongy foam with plastic over it (87 Mustang wheel). Post some pics!

Finally, I found the charger for the camera. This is the sand color in a 2002 Windstar and I did not cut back the old covering. I bought mine directly from Wheelskins after talking with the person there you could tell any questions or problems would be taken care of. Once again, I will never buy one of those cheap pop on covers from the parts store this feels just like a factory leather steering wheel.
