I have joined this forum because I am a Ford fan and to find help with my 2004 Excursion, 1999 Taurus Wagon and 1999 Taurus Sedan. My immediate issue is the Excursion. It cranks (turns over) but will not start. I have verified the battery (new), alternator, starter, fuses/relays, fuel pump. First time this happened (2 weeks ago) I reset the inertia switch and it started up but now that does not work. Thank you for any advice and letting me join this Ford forum.

Welcome aboard, mate!
i know that when you change the fuel filter, the inertia switch must be disconnected, than you crank the truck for 15 seconds, but no longer(that will damage the starter). Then reconect the switch and it should crank over every time. Keep in mind that is what I do with my Ranger, but it could work with the excursion. Hope it helps!

Sorry, I should have stated the engine. It is a V8, 5.4L. Two weeks ago I did change out the fuel filter and reset the inertia switch and it ran for about a week before doing this again.

Try using an OBDII scan tool, if its something electrical it should come up on there. The OBDII port is underneath the steering column down near the bottom of the fairing, but sometimes there is also a CPU port under the hood. It might say something like CPU, COMPUTER, or DIAGNOSIS on it. The cpu port might also require a ford scantool adapter for the OBDII. Also, how have you verified the alternator works? If the truck has been run for a long enough time at higher temps, it can sometimes damage the stator inside the alternator beacuse the rotor spins so fast that over time the heat will kill the stator or rectifier bridge, which can be replaced relatively easily. Honestly this sounds like an electrical problem to me, so again, using an OBDII scanner is probably your best bet. Hope this helps out devildog!
