It sounds like your fuel pump is bad. Locate the fuel pump relay in the relay box and turn the key on while listening to the relay. It should click on then off again after a couple seconds. If it is doing that then locate the inertia switch and jump the wires and see if the pump runs. You can also check for power at the inertia switch. If you have power there you have a bad pump or wires. You will have to drop the tank to check the harnes at the pump then. The codes you have all would lead me to look for a loss of fuel pressure so I think you can pretty much count on having to replace it. I would not use an external pump. The lines are not splicable and there are other things involved that just an outside pump would not address. Fuel level indicator, return fuel flow control etc.

My van, 1998 Windstar LTD 3.8 eng. I cannot get my van to start unless I put some fuel in the intake manifold. I replaced the fuel filter and tried to get fuel to squirt from the hose when the filter was off with no luck. How do I diagnose the fuel pump, fuel pump relay, etc. Can I jump the fuel pump or put an electric inline pump (temporary). Also, I was having intermittent hard/rough start for several months. Recent OBD codes P0171, P1151, P0300, P1131, P0174, P0306, & P1000. I replaced mass air sensor, throttle position sensor & intake vacuum elbow (at top of manifold).
