Waterproof your back yard canopy

I have one of those 10' x 10' or 12' x 12' backyard canopy with a white canvas top.

After I washed it, it needed to be water-proofed. I had 3/4 of a gallon of Thompson's water seal lying around from a previous project. Pulled out my spray gun, and compressor, and had at it.

Gallon = 128 ounces $11.
12 ounce Spray = $5

I gave it two 1 quart applications, and it worked pretty well.

Overspray!

Gee I don't know? What do you think?

I have a cable that runs between two trees. I hung it over it and sprayed it up. We got a pretty significant rainfall last night and one section of the yard was flooded, and one section, (under the cable) which got a little overspray was bone dry. Do you think the overspray protects from flooding?
