Until the mid '90s, the Ford Bronco was famous for being a rough-and-tumble off-road vehicle that had been tackling trails and fording streams since the 1960s. It was also one of the first sport-utility vehicles: a versatile truck then described by Ford as being able to serve as a family sedan, sports roadster, snowplow or farm and civil defense vehicle. From 1952 to 1958 the Ford Courier was marketed as a "sedan delivery" designated body code 78A, and was based on the contemporary sedan and station wagon designs. During the 1957 and 1958 model year, a windowed variant of the Courier was marketed for fleet orders and a number were produced primarily for Government services. Production: 1972 - 1982

The Lightning is based on the short-wheelbase, standard cab, flareside, two-wheel drive version of the F-150; in other words, the littlest one. Under the hood goes a 5.4-liter SOHC V-8, suitably pumped up with a supercharger and intercooler, and cranking out a not-inconsiderable 380 horsepower at 4,750 rpm and 450 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,250 rpm. Production: 1993 - 1995; 1999 - 2004
