I have a 2005 Excursion Limited with the factory in-dash 6-disc changer. I want to upgrade all the speakers and add an amp but my neighbors son who "supposedly" knows about this stuff said that I would have to get a new deck since you can't hook up an amp to the factory stereo since it doesn't have any "pre-outs" what ever that is. I don't want to get rid of the stock radio, I like the looks and the fit over a dash kit taking up the extra space where the large factory radio was and I'd lose the 6-disc changer or would have to shell out more money for an aftermarket changer. And I wanted the amp because everyone says new speakers wouldn't be worth it unless I pushed them with an amp. So can I hook an amp up to the factory stereo. I'm going to my local Audio Express on my next day off but was wondering if anyone here knew.

Try looking at the following link for a line out converter. It converts speaker level to preamp level signals to allow you to tap your speaker wires to supply a signal to an external amp. Available just about anywhere.

Thanks, that looks interesting, I'll show that to who ever I have do my upgrade. My wife decided she wants security screens doors, front and back, instead of my stereo so it looks like my tunes will be put off for a little while.
