Sirius antenna install on a 2005 Five Hundred

I am planning to add a Sirius satellite radio tuner to m aftermarket Sony head unit in my 2005 Five Hundred. The under dash part looks simple but I'm a little concerned about the best way to run the antenna wire and where to place the magnetic antenna. I assume the best spot is on the roof above the rear window but I have Inno racks up there so I'm wondering if I should put it on the trunk lid. Has anyone installed a satellite antenna in either location? If so, any tips would be greatly appreciated as well as pictures! Thanks!

Hey there Mark,

See if the following link assists you with the Sirius antenna installation. The chap there mounted the antenna to the dash of his Five Hundred.

Hope this helps.

Thanks MissI...I actually saw this post as well as a few others. Mounting the antenna on the dash seems easiest but I've read an equal number of stories about it working well as about it not. In the roof seems to be the safest choice reception-wise even if it is a little harder to do. I was concerned about this poster's comment about the window weather stripping not allowing him to run the wire because it looks like mine will have plenty of room. I'm currently about half way through the in-dash portion of the install and then I'll move on to the antenna. Unfortunately, a thunderstorm just rolled through and since I'm working in the driveway I have to take a break! I'll let you know how it turns out...

Well, I'm done! Antenna mounted on roof, no problem running the wire around the window and under the rubber trim to the trunk. Only problem was that the antenna wire was not long enough to go all the way up the side under the trim so I had to route it under the driver's seat to the center console. That angle cut off just enough length to make it. I probably have enough slack in the trunk that if I really wanted to pull it all out and redo it it would reach but I think it's fine this way. I guess if the wire under the seat gives me a problem I'll do it. Other than that, I mounted the tuner and controller on the side of the center console facing the driver's right leg. I considered tucking it all behind the head unit but I've read that you sometimes need to reset the tuner by pulling the power jack and I didn't want to have to pull the head unit every time this needed to be done. If that doesn't turn out to be an issue for me and if I decide I don't like the way it looks there I can always move it. It's pretty unoffensive. All in all pretty easy. Biggest pain besides trying to work in between the thunder showers has been getting my head unit all reprogrammed the way I had it since I disconnected the power at one point and dumped it's memory. Commercial-free music and Howard Stern here I come!
