2009 Escape - TPMS Malfunction

I have been receiving the flashing low tire pressure indicator that becomes a constant indicator after a couple minutes that is an indication that one of the tire pressure monitors has malfunctioned. Is there any way to know which one is reporting the problem, and what is the best fix for this issue?

It is usually a pressure sensor gone bad or damaged during a flat or new tire installation.I usually try to reprogram the sensors and the one that wont program is the bad one.Since most people dont reprogram the sensors during a tire rotation monitoring the pids with ids may give you a false location.

We haven't changed the tires or had any flat tires since we purchased the vehicle 5 months ago.
Do I need special equipment to reprogram the sensors? And I don't fully understand the last sentence you posted, I'm not really much of a car guy.

The last sentence is about if a sensor is programed to left front and the tire is rotated to a different position the vehicle will not realize this.I meant technicians not people.

For your vehicle there is a special programmer,it is available aftermarket to the public some independent shops may be able to help.

It is under basic warranty 3 years 36 k miles. I will check and see if it is covered any further being a possible safety item.

We buoght the vehicle after being in use one year. It had almost 60,000 kilometers on it but was in quite good shape, I'm assuming they were mostly highway kilometers. Most of the warranty except for the engine runs out at 60k, I think we are almost at 70k now though.

Not to question your intelligence, but have you checked the air pressure in the tires? Sometimes the colder months can pull a tire low enough to set the light. It only has to be 5psi low...

Did you check your spare tire? I thought I read somewhere there is a sensor on the spare as well that could cause TPMS.

If it don't fit, force it. If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway.
