Full size spare??

Anyone know if the spare tire hoist (or whatever you call it) on the Windstar will support a full size wheel and tire? Or would it be too much weight for that to hold correctly/safely.

In Chicagoland, need an OBDII or ABS scan, look me up.

HA! Think I found my answer.

From the owners manual

. Store the flat tire under the vehicle just as you would store
the spare tire. Refer to the section on Stowing the Spare Tire
in this chapter.

Looks like I may be in the market for an extra wheel and tire.

Wife is at work so I don't have access to the actual manual, but they can be found here. Hopefully I can find a wheel fairly cheap.

I've had a full size tire in the spare rack of my 2000 Windstar for almost a year - I hate those 'wimps'. No apparent signs of any damage to the frame or anything. BUT - the one occasion I had to use it was by the roadside on a rainy night ! - can be a bear to get it out !

Why did you post it here instead of the Windstar section?

Windstar is designed to carry full size spare, as mine have all had. Freestar isn't.

My 1998 Windstar came with a doughnut stock. It said Krispy Kreme instead of Goodyear.

If you ever buy a used Windstar again, be sure to check the spare and make sure that it fits properly. I made the mistake of not checking and assuming that the tire actually fit, but when I finally got a flat and tried to put it on the lugs were 1/4 inch further apart.
