Hey Y'all,
I've recently purchased my first project car. The body is solid but I'm just looking for insight on a couple items. Such as;
What does it take to put a 302ci in it? It currently has the stock 221
And
Are there any good upgraded suspension kits that are made for this car or one I can use with light to moderate fabrication. Thanks for any help yall can provide. I'm excited to start this journey

Welcome to the FFO!

The 221 V8 was the first version or displacement of the Windsor engine series. Since the 302 that was introduced in 1968 is also part of the Windsor engine series, installing a 302 should be rather easy. It's the same block.

And know that the 221 is historically significant only used in 1962 and someone might want it. Don't scrap it.

The 221 was also a 1963 motor. Also, the upper motor mount plates for the 221 are 6" between centers and the 260/289/302/5.0 motors used the 7" upper mount plates. You will have to source the correct ones or lengthen the 6" ones to fit the later motors.

The 221 will have a 5 bolt pattern on the bellhousing, all 302s will have a 6 bolt pattern so the correct bell or transmission will need to be located. All SBFs built after 1/1/65 will have the 6 bolt pattern.
