Hello folks. I am looking to buy a good drivable 1963-1/2 ford galaxie. My only real criteria other than it must run and have a good solid body etc, is that it needs to have a 390 and buckets seats. I would prefer an automatic. Let me know if anyone has anything for sale, or knows of one. thank you all!

Hi Action,
Nice catch on the non-stock items. The engine vin is X, which should be a 352, so either it's still a 352 just with 390 badging or it has been changed to a 390.

63-1/2 was the model of galaxie. Ford changed the car mid year based on NASCAR to my understanding. the 1/2 model is a fast back where the 63 is more "boxy" looking. My first car was a 63-1/2 and I would like another.

By serial numbers (The term VIN was not used until 1980) Ford made a 1963 or a 1964 Galaxie.
The fastback body style may have been added in mid-year. But a lot of things have been added mid-year.
Ford did that in 1962 with Falcon and offered a different roof line
Same with model year 1963 in the middle of the year Ford offered a V8 in Falcon for the first time.
Mid-year 1963 Galaxie got the 427 that replaced the 406. Both the engine and the "Sports Hard Top" (fastback) were made to better compete at NASCAR.
You asked for a fastback and that is the body style in that link.

Yes, the car originally had a 352. The engine in the vehicle now is a 61-63 390.

"63 1/2" is a generally accepted albeit imprecise colloquial term for the '63 Sport Hardtop aka fastback introduced Feb/March 1963. I've nver seen an official Ford document stating "63 1/2" (nor any 64 1/2 Mustang btw).
WIth respect to that listing, Action as usual is spot on. Heaven only knows what the engine really is. At that price what else would the dealer say? A rating of < 92% is hardly stellar. Yes the engine bay is a mess.
When I first saw the ad (last week), I thought it listed the serial number (what many call a VIN) and noticed it shipped with a 352, but cannot see it on the listing now.
A knowledgable seller should at least post a photo of the 'warranty door tag', a photo of the serial number stamped into the body and plenty of under body photos.
And I'll refrain from saying much about the wheels, except they look stupid and the ride will suck.

I agree with your comments on the wheels. I'll patient. If one comes up that I want I'll look into it. Also not looking to spend 100K like some guys think they're worth. My appraisal magazine states 34K in mint condition (although I know that's just an estimate). Thanks for the comments. You guys rock!
