just picked up a 5.4L 3V
It's already been tore down.
The cams still have the phasers still attached.
My question? How can I tell the difference between the left and right cam?

Thanks that's a great clip!
Let me ask the question in a more clear form.
The cams are out of the engine, is there a difference between the left or right cam or are they interchangeable?

there are right and left camshafts but I can't find what side they fit
see if there is a number or marking on them to identify them

I'm sorry but you are going to have to contact a dealer
I looked at a catalogue and they didn't give e an id number

The cams ARE different from side to side. The phasers may have a number stamped in it.

Worse case you could ID based on firing order. And that would not be EZ.

The cam phasers are interchangeable.
Sometimes you just need to get away from things to figure them out so I went to bed,
Woke up this morning started looking threw the manual.
It says to put the left side chain on first. Then it hit me one cam has to be longer than the other to allow for chain overlap. Pulled up pics on line, the left side chain is closest to the block so left is short and right is long. Measured the cams and there is a length difference.
Thanks for the info,

This is probably too late to help you, but it might help someone else looking for this information.
I removed the cams to replace lifters on my 2005 F150 5.4L 3v and decided to measure the cams.
The right cam (passenger side) is 18 3/4" the left cam (driver side) is 19".
I hope this helps .
