    hello everybody,
i have a 96 ford escort lx wagon w/1.9l motor and i am having trouble starting and keeping it running.it also has no power at all.
i have replaced the cam position sensor, crankshaft position sensor and intake gasket.i have also replace the fuel pump which now i am getting about 40psi when tested.the thing that has me confused is when i pull #4 spark plug wire the motor will quit, but when i pull the #2 and #3 spark plug wire the motor does not change, still has very rough idle,i have to keep it running by giving it throttle by hand.i got it running(barley) and pulled all 4 wires off of the coil pack and had spark but in not sure if it is enough it sure shocked me enough lol. also when i touch the intake the two tubes next to the throttle they are not hot and only two of them are hot and only one is warm and the other is almost cold.

    thanks

    paul

? does this car have distributor or coil pack ? and if coil pack have they ever been replaced ? if distributor if might be faulty as u stated no stall on 2/3 cylinders when removed.

Pull diagnostic codes, autozone ond other parts stores will do so for free. Let us know the results.

You need to replace the IAC valve. They are a common problem on these cars.

Coil pack on ebay barely over $20 shipped- seach "ignition" for your car and then put the listings "lowest cost + shipping first"

Four screws and one connector off and on, and the four wires- my screws were 7 mm I think- a small socket.

I had a similar problem on my '96. If pulling the spark plug wires for the #2/3 sparkplugs doesn't do anything, then it probably means those spark plugs aren't working. I'd get all new spark plugs (or at least #2/3). It worked for me. It's possible too that the #2/3 spark plug wires need to be replaced (if it isn't the spark plugs themselves).
