Hello all! 99 Escort LX 130,000 miles. when first starting or initial excelerating there is a loud exhaust noise on daughter's car. I got under and had her start the car and the noise was not along the pipe but was coming from in front of the oil pan. The pipe goes under the oil pan. I was thinking about taking the heat shield off and getting a better look. What do you think and suggest? thanks again!!

Sometimes the shield on the convertor comes loose
Use a couple of large screw adjustable straps to stop the rattling

Sorry, I should have been more clear. the noise is not a rattling. It is a whole in the muffler sound.

It is the Catalytic converter. Does anyone have some real world instructions on how to remove the converter? tools, sequence, etc...? Please and Thank you!
