Around a month back, my Kid 99 Taurus Transmission was giving him some problems, from sounds to heavy changes of gears.
Last thursday driving the car out of his garage, was the last of this tranny, the worst sound and a strong leak, the car dont get any gear now, even in Parking gear, stay in Neutral.

The only thing that I could do was,: lift the car, remove the wheels and take a look under the tranny (reads : AX4N METER) the leak comes from the passenger side.
My first believe after I saw the Leak in the ground was the engine. but, when I touch it with my finger is a red/Dark color, by the way the car starts normally.

We cant afford to take this car to the shop, The only help can I give to my Son, is to help him replace this tranny from a Junk-Jark.

I have to main questions :
1- What are the steps to remove the Transmission from a 1999 Ford Taurus? (AX4N).
2-Any tips to look or check when pulling out the transmission from a JunkJard.?

Attached are 3 pdf's - transaxle r&r and engine/transaxle r&R from the service manual. I can't offer tips as I have never done the procedure on a taurus. These may help you out.

PB BLASTER and preSOAK it will help alot, but if your not very experienced at tranny pulls your in for a long ride, that axle like to get stuck every now and then, but besides stuburn parts the removal is pretty simple, just labros to unbolt and rebolt everything. You might want to find a small time shop to do it, i did mine in my 99 two times before i finnaly said enought and paid the 300 to have the mechanic do it ... just a thought, but if you have problems let me know i have pulled three time now ... tranny on fourth rebuild ... FROM FORD WTF!

Royesses,
It was great of you to post those pdfs. It is a darn shame that the manual is so sparse of pictures.

Poppy I am glad to help when I can. The service manual on DVD seems to be shy of a lot of illustrations and other useful tidbits. The paper manuals seem to be better.
