Breather clearance problems

I am in the process of putting a late 70's 250 6cyl/c4 in my 62 falcon. The motor and trans are mounted and I need to know what breather to run because of the hood to carb clearance.I have maybe 2 inches between them. The motor is sitting as low as possible now.I have changed the center link to the 63 V8.I want to go to a V8 later but funds do not allow right now.Any info on this would be great.

what did the falcon originally have in it?
I have no idea.I bought the car with a 250 already in it.Turns out the motor was not good so I am swapping it for another 250 my buddy gave me.The car has already been converted to V8 steering and I have all the parts for the granada disk swap.It also has the 63 V8 8in rear end(lucky me).The rear end is worth more than I paid for the car.
I'd make it like a newer car, plumb something over to a corner of the engine compartment and put the air filter over there, or I remember having a boat that had a 1"tall x 8"round (approx) air cleaner on it maybe try a boat shop.
Let me know what you end up using. It's still a long ways off but I have a 250 I'm going to put in my 63. I figured I'd just hit up a junkyard or two, measure some air filters, and buy the thinnest one.
Edelbrock makes a triangle shaped top breather that is pretty low
need one more post to show link.
The problem is the carb.I have several aftermarket cleaners and none of the come close to clearing the hood.I have tried several of the ones off of my familys VW's.With scrap being so high around here (north Georgia) all of the older cars are getting crushed.I need one that recesses the breather down over the carb. Thanks for the help.
I had a 170 in my 63...there was alot of room under the hood... I just put in a stroker 347 with dual quads, and still have about 2 inches to spare.

you might have to find somebody to make you one... by taking 2 and making it into 1

I am going to make one.I have found nothing close around here.Being the single barrel carb there is almost no after market.I have a base that came off of some after market breather that I am goin to use to start it.Ghostrider6 gave me the idea of plumbing a cold air style in.I am going to use some 2.5 in. aluminum pipe I have.I do not want the rice burner looking filter on it though. This car is being built with the old school look(Flat white paint, white wall tires and tuck n roll int.).Just wondering what breather to use.Since it is going to be custom,I can attach almost anything.Let me know what yall think and I will post pics aas it comes together. Thanks Ed
Edelbrock Pro-Flo Series Air Cleaners - SummitRacing.com I would not buy another one of these, ever. One good backfire and the foam element has a meltdown, and if the hood is close enough, there goes the paint and the hood is warped forever. Rich

Holy Hell, for $300 he could buy 5 hookers, an air breather, and still have money left over for a decent burger and shake.
300 for that ugly breather.I dont think so.I would run with bounty and duck tape first. All kidding aside,I have found a breather off of a progressive weber that can be modified to fit.My dad was running the carb on his VW rail and I noticed it sitting in his shop.I conficated it and I think it will work with a modified base plate.I will post pics.
"Breather"??? Don't you mean "Air Cleaner"? This topic caught my eye as I couldn't figure out why the oil breather (caps) wouldn't fit.

Remember that ford used th e250 on many different vehicles, including the LTD. Check the various trucks, Granadas, etc. that used the engine. Yes, it is hard to get air cleaner on the early Falcon because the engine block is taller then the original Falcon 6.
Just got to thinking. One of my buddys dropped in the other night driving a "Tuna car", a Honda Civic that still had a few Honda parts.

He is running the tapered K&N air filter that is at the end of a tube that runs into the F.I. system. There is no law that prevents you from duplicating that set up on a Falcon.

Nice to see you around again ,Yank. This guys wants the old school look though, not tuna crap.
I am looking for the old school look, but maybe Yank has something. What if it was built like some of the old nascar stuff?I googled Wood Brothers and found some interesting looking induction set ups.I have access to a mill and lathe,so this might be something I try.If anyone has any pics please post.
What you call "Tuna Crap" was used by various top rated Ford men during the 1960's, well, okay the new K&N filter would be the wrong shape.

The filter at the end of a feed tube has been used on trucks for ages, especially military vehicles.
