Hi all,
Was wondering if anyone has had any luck disabling the PATS anti theft system. I'm installing a 99 mountaineer engine in a 68 Galaxie. I have 1 key and it works with the engine. I'd just like to get rid of the extra PATS stuff for simplicity. I don't want to deal with a big mess if that one key goes bad. I know it can be done. Just wondering if anyone has some experience with PCM programming software and has done this. Or if someone has sent their PCM out for programming this out. I'd like to loose the PATS and modify the shift points/shift pressures for some spirited acceleration.

I'm not sure that you can disable a pats system. The working components of one consists of the key, transciever, instrument cluster, and pcm. It operates on the ISO network between the cluster and pcm. The key is just a transponder that reacts to the transciever when inserted into the key tumbler assembly. The transciever sends a signal to the cluster, which in turn tells the pcm that the correct key is installed. I haven't heard of anyone disabling the system, but I see why you would want to in your application. Maybe someone else on here has had experience with that.
