The original pads on the rear of my 2001 F150 lasted 8 years. The new pads that are on there now are half gone after 2 years. Is this just a case of using cheap pads or is there something else going on?

it could be cheap pads, or a difference in braking style, you might want to check all your hardware as well could have something sticking, your drum or rotor might have helped to precipitate more wear as well

If your not using OEM pads, then that may be the problem. We use them here on a daily basis and don't see any wear problems from the pad. If the rotor is turned too thin, you may have a problem with heat dissipation, which will in turn give you a wear problem. Are both sides wearing evenly? Could be slides sticking or calipers not returning correctly.

They're not OEM pads, they're aftermarket. I checked the invoice. the truck has travelled 31.000 miles on the pads. I guess half worn in 31k isn't too bad. The next set will be OEM.
