Hi folks,

Looking for some advice here. I have an F250 super duty, 2003. For the first couple of weeks of towing my horse trailer, all was well, probably made 5-6 short trips. Then, on a 45 minute easy pull, the turn signals and brake lights went out. Not the lights in the trailer, but the lights in the truck and trailer. Not even the indicator on the dash that the turn signals were working. All other electrics (other lights and trailer brake) worked fine.

Took it to mechanic, they jiggled some wires. Hooked back up to trailer, same problem. Take truck and trailer in, they rewire the trailer and do some work on the plug. All is fine for the 10 minute drive home, and then a 45 minute haul on Sunday. Went out today, hooked up, lights gone again.

Mechanics suggested it was blowing a fuse, but the fuse it should be isn't blown. Other electrics aren't right, and I'm not sure if they were the first time I took it in. When I stopped at the store on my way home (without the turn signals and brake lights working), the indicator light/noise for the key being in the ignition/seat belt/ lights on engine off weren't working. Came out the store and they're working again. Can put full-beam on temporarily, but not permanently. Since yesterday (before I hooked up today, but after I did at the weekend), the indicator that my doors are open has been one. Briefly, the windows didn't work on Sunday. Cruise has never worked, neither has interior locking/electric opening (not sure if that's the right term). I can manage without interior locking etc. But kind of need turn signals.

I had an F150 with the same trailer and did at least 4k towing miles in 2021-22 with no a problem on this front, so it never was (I don't think) the trailer. Bought the f250 in September, and am getting a bit...peeved at this point. Any insights whatsoever?

Cheers

Welcome to the FFO!

Do the lights work without the trailer connected?

With the other things (key warning, door locks, windows, speed control) that is a lot of unrelated circuits. Not sure what to say.
I would be looking at battery junction box or something like that. Would need a wiring diagram too.

Thanks, Action!!

Once they "blow" from the trailer being attached they don't, but I don't have problems until the trailer is attached. Any chance it could be the wiring harness?

Yeah there is a wiring problem.

The typical area is the connector between the TV and trailer.
Next would be damaged wiring on the trailer since it is exposed.
Then damage to the TV wiring just in front of the trailer connector.
