:yikes:Good news is I ran out of gas in the driveway. Gauge showed just over half tank. I ran out a month ago on 1/4 tank so that mark then became the empty point for me until this. I poured two gallons in and she fired back up. I knew then it was either the gauge or the sending unit. I crawled under the car and unplugged the sending unit wire and my gauge fell to empty. I ordered a sending unit from Classic Car Auto Parts, $84.99 shipped. It came yesterday and I installed it last night. Keep these guys in mind if you need a tank or sending unit. The price was right and the shipping was prompt.

so did you replace the entire pump or just the sending unit?

I would guess just the sender being that old.

Works like it should now.

PS, When I removed the sending unit, lifted the float and released it, it stopped before falling to the empty position. It squeaked too. Oh, the plastic micro screen on the pick up tube was desintegrated too. Ethanol I presume. Thankfully there is a local station still selling ethanol free fuel.
