Hi all. I'm in the process of converting my 64 mustang 260 V8 generator to a three wire alternator. I have alternator mounted. Need some help on wiring. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This should help.
Fourth wire shown is separate ground. Ford did not use one as they relied for the mounting for a ground. If I was making a system I would add a separate ground. Aluminum case and cast iron block is not the best way to obtain a ground.

System on left has a gauge and system on right has a warning light

Radio noise suppression may be desired.

Yes, a separate ground wire, with the same gauge as the charge wire is always a good idea.

@williampardell: with respect term "3 wire" - do you mean the type of alternator common refernced as "3G"?
@Action - am I wrong in reading that your diagrams depict the 1G type?
