Just signed up tonight. I have a '00 SVT Contour and a '98 Windstar. Hoping to be able to provide some help and insight in the Contour area since there usually aren't a lot of people with experience on these cars.

My SVT is probably one of the rarest out there, still stock performance wise, Tropic Green (only 710 made in that color), spoiler and moonroof.

I actually found this forum form several posts at ford-forums.com, look forward to interacting with some of the same folks.

Yes, welcome aboard. I also have a '98 windstar, and we can help each other, and you are right that there are not many of us here with a lot of experience with the Probe/Contour.

Not too long ago I learned that there are early and later versions of that car, and that the ODB1 codes are different for them

Perhaps you would be interested in posting a tutorial on HowTo pull diagnostic codes in a Probe Contour year- year, and year-year
That certainly is one thing that sets those Fords apart.

Actually the Probe and Contour are not the same car. The Probe is a Mazda and that's why they had different codes. The tool to pull them was also different in that it had a special adapter. The Contour is a Ford/Europe combination and has always been OBD II. The SVT is a special beast. I like them. I just finished a timing chain job on a 99 2.5 the other day. That same engine was put in the short lived Cougar variant. Look forward to some good exchanges with you D. Acker.

Canuck623,
I bow to your knowledge and experience :)

So I guess I am not going to get any Probe stuff out of him, eh?

LOL.. That's ok, I have other resources.

A lot of people used a paper-clip to pull codes from a probe. I recently found out that works fine for a OBD1 Bronco as well! :) LOL... you should have seen the codes I got!

Correct! The Contour\Mystique\Mondeo\Cougar are the closest cousins in the Ford\Merc lineup. The CEG (see my sig) has been\is a wonderful resource for all things Contique.

Welcome all of you,
Bob, love th e new SHO's, great car, I tried one of the first to make it to Oregon. My Wife wanted to trade the Mustang for it, maybe later. It would go good with the two gen 2 SHO's that we have.

I know BroncoJoe19 really well, I'll pass your sentiments on to him. :)

That hacker deleted a lot of really good threads.
