Pulled the engine and automatic in the fall for rebuild. Got it back and assembled. Problem is when starter is installed the engine will not rotate. Remove the starter and I can rotate the engine ok.I don’t remember ,nor can I find any spacers for between engine and trans or starter to transmission. Flex plate and spacer to crank appear to be assembled correctly , same starter I took off. I know there must be something I have overlooked, any help would be appreciated..

Welcome to the FFO!

There should be a plate between the engine and transmission.
The starter bolts through that plate to the transmission. Without that plate you are going to have issues.
