Here is an article from eHow.com about how to handle used automotive oil and where to take it. Recycling of oil is usually free of charge. Being environmentally friendly has never been so easy!

there are alot of shops that use used oil to heat their shops during the winter
I take mine to Advance Auto. They just put a new location much closer to home and I feel so special because at the new location they let me dump it in the big blue dumpster myself.

My friend in Indiana does that for his little "shop" furnace.
I use the old oil from my better cars for top off oil in my '88 Escort with 508K miles that uses a quart about every 1000-1200 miles. Keeps me from having to pay $2.50-$3.50 a quart and saves new resources for oil that's just going to be burnt anyway. I've been doing this for several years and haven't seen any increase in oil consumption.

Yep, that's where mine goes......it really helps keep the heating costs down. Now, if I can only figure out how to make it work with the AC :)
i use mine as bar oil for my chain saw.
