Hello everyone i bought a 1992 Ford econoline 150-302- 97,500 miles to take my family on trips to southern Ohio to visit my parents,i only drive it really on the freeway and its really been good to me so far but i was driving home yesterday and it was pouring rain, i had cruise control on and all of sudden my overdrive button engaged off so i pushed the button to turn it back on but it just keeps turning itself off i had to manually hold the button in for a minute to get it to turn on but overdrive just keeps engaging without me hitting the button it keeps turning itself off when ever it feels like it just wondering what kind of problem this could be,any suggestions would be greatful since i dont have much money to have a dealer to look at it..:thumbsup:And by the way this is a great site for Ford owners and enthusiast i will always recommend my family and friends that drive Ford.

The od button light is turned on by the PCM. It does this when it detects a problem either in the E4OD trans solenoids or controls. It will usually cause the trans to start shifting hard, because it bumps line pressure to max in order to "save" the transmission. It could be something as simple as the speed sensor in the differential, or as bad as clutch slipping in the trans. Need to have the codes checked to see what it says is going on.
