I'm not a mechanic, and other than doing a couple of tuneups "Points and condensers" on a few cars (so that I can borrow a friend's lift) I can't say that I ever really worked on anyone's car(s), other than my own.
When I was a kid, I'd buy one that needed some repairs, get it cheap, fix it up, and keep it for a year or so. I'd then sell it for pretty much what I paid for it. So.. I learned how to replace parts, but no heavy lifting such as engine rebuilds.
I hadn't gotten my fingers greasy since 1980 until I got my bronco a couple of years ago. It had an intermittant stalling problem that my mechanic hadn't nailed down, primarily because it was intermittant. I learned about pulling codes in OBD systems (pre-1996) and wrote a tutorial for it.
I've been learning about computer controlled cars and trucks ever since, and have helped more than a few people help themselves. I've been pretty active on some other forums, and hope to make this a new home.
I do have a tendancy to write long posts, and sometimes tell storys, that people have to wade through before they get to the information that they need to fix their cars, but that's the price they have to pay for admission
I recognise that I am one of the first members to this forum, so I hope that it becomes full of members, and becomes a busy, helpful place.
