Here's my repair on the spring hangers. Yeah, I know. I need more heat or less wire. Lol! They'll hold though. These would have been a great candidate for my new TIG unit, but I don't have a tank of shielding gas yet. It's going to hover around zero degrees here for the next few days. So, I'm probably going to pass on working on the old girl for a couple days. Stay warm!

My welding instructor's mantra:

'If you can't weld too good , weld a lot ... '

Went from years of stick welding to my first MIG when I got the Falcon @ 20 years ago. My welds appearance has improved since I've had all the practice on the Falcon, Comet and Maverick but my earliest crappy looking welds haven't ever let go.

I can understand the pride in nice 'stack of dimes' weld appearance but want to encourage novices - MIG welding isn't difficult if you understand the basics needed for strong if not pretty welding.

have fun

So, I started cleaning up the inside rockers to get them ready to paint the insides. As you can see in the second pic (above my big clodhopper), I have a rusted through area to be repaired. Fortunately, I kept a piece of the old rocker for repairs. Unfortunately, it's for the other side.(According to the vents underneath.) However, I need only the flange part. So, I'm good.

I'm back...kinda. To answer the question on how long it took to weld up the weld cart, it was a good couple days. A lot has happened since my work ended on the Falcon. We moved out of the house where the garage is and into a larger house about 10 miles away. My daughter moved in and then moved out to go to college in Chicago. Last fall I bought a 3 stall garage on it's own lot to stash my 76 highboy F250 4x4, 67 Cougar and 72 Ranchero GT. Once again, I'm working 12.5 hour shifts 6 days a week until around mid November. I'm hoping to be back on the car again soon. I bought an automatic column for it to make it easier to drive for my girlfriend. She's only about 115 lbs. So, she can't push a heavy clutch in. That's it for now.

Anyone know if torque boxes or front subframe rails are still available for the Falcon?

So, as I'm about ready to start stuffing the frame rails in, I had forgotten where I had written down the dimensions for the lift cylinder brackets. After a closer look at the frame rails, I found it!

Steve, I currently have the torque boxes disassembled. I could take some measurements.

That would be great. Mine look like someone tried to repair them and where they meet the sub frame rails it looks like they used silicone to cover shoddy welds.
I don't think I can go by the dimensions of the repaired pieces so any dimensions you have would be great.
This past winter I upgraded the front suspension and since spring is just around the corner I will probably tackle the frame rails and torque boxes along with filling in the 20 holes from different seat mountings.
I also want to get a stock tunnel from a donor car and get rid of the fiberglass tunnel as they hacked the floor to put it in. That will take the full winter.
Thanks
Steve

Okay. I'm waiting on a warmer day to paint inside the rockers. Tomorrow I'm going to drill the holes in the inner frame rails and weld in the captured nuts to the inside. It's time to get this frame together. Steve, I'm going to try to make some tracings of the torque box pieces. I'll keep you posted.
