Hi, first time posting. We have a 1993 Escort lx with the 1.9 l engine. A little history about the car. My brother purchased it as a program car with 30K+ miles. He gave it to my son with 120K+ miles. We've just changed fluids and belts and spark plugs for maintenance and never had any major issue. It started stalling and I started looking at the vacuum lines and replaced some. I found one that starts from the under side of the intake/throttle and goes to a component I'm not sure what it is, but it has wires attached to it and then what I think might be a vacuum line continues on to somewhere under the filter housing. My question is in two parts; 1. where does the vacuum line/rubber hose land, because I found it just dangling and 2. what is the component with wires attached to it. I included a picture of the component and the end of the rubber hose.

Don't know about pic #1 but #2 looks like an old spark plug wire that whoever replaced the plug wires couldn't get out so they just left it there.

The second picture is the end of the rubber hose that comes from the first picture. It's quite smaller than a spark plug connector, it's a connector commonly used when attaching it to a hard plastic nipple.

OK sorry about that but it looked quite large in the pic.

Nothing to be sorry about, honest mistake. I just need help identifying the metal piece from the first picture to determine the rubber hose from it is suppose to land. I have a Chilton manual, but can't determine what the component is. I guess I can remove it and take to O'Reilly.

Looks like a vapor canister purge valve

My thoughts also. Is the other one a hose or an electrical wire / connector? Do you have any kind of relationship with a Ford dealer? I've dealt with 3 over the years & none of the 3 have ever done me wrong. Maybe go and ask one?
Save yourself alot of trouble.

Thanks a lot, that will be a big help. Atleast I can look at the manual diagram and determine where it's landed. Hopefully I can find the landing spot.

Thanks for your help. I found the idle control valve was pretty gunked up as well as the air intake damper, cleaned those and it's running much better.
