Can't get fuel in 2012 Fusion

Hi. Just bought a 2012 Ford Fusion With 19,000 miles. I am unable to get gas into the tank without the pump clicking off multiple MULTIPLE times like the tank is full. But it's not. First trip to the dealer revealed nothing wrong except probable user error since it's a capless gas tank. Not so, and I'm not too happy at the moment.

Has anyone else had this problem and what fixed it? Thanks to whoever can give me a clue!

I recently had the same problem with my 2013 Fusion hybrid in Oregon. The gas jockey could only get a gallon in even though I was down to half a tank. I thought he was doing something wrong and tried myself, to no avail. When I got into the car I found that although I had turned the ignition off the car was still in "Drive".
As I have had no problems since I think you must be in park, park brake set and ignition off to prevent this problem. Cheers, Peter Rose.

Some vehicles do require you to hold the nozzle at a specific angle to be able to fuel it. Weird, huh? On my Crown Vic, once you insert the nozzle into the filler tube, you have to turn the handle to about the 5 'clock or 7 o'clock position (rather than straight down), or you will spend lots of time trying to fill 'er up. I looked underneath and figured it was because of the sharp turn the filler tube makes.
