Hello to all! I'm Alvin Panlilio from the Philippines. I own a 2012 Ford Fiesta 1.4L 5DR Automatic Transmission. I'm happy to join the FORDFORUM and I'm hoping I could get some information regarding problems I have with my car.
My car mileage is already 94,646 Kms. My big problem now is, the car won't move in the Reverse Mode. Before I had this problem, the car is slow accelerating, jerking, and has no power going up, after replacing the V belt and crankcase valve hose. The car also consumes a lot of gasoline. The Powertrain Error is also displayed in the panel, and only dash(-) line is shown, instead of the PRND display. There is also an oil leak on the bottom of the transmission. Just a few days ago, I did some troubleshooting, and found the electricals connectors around the engine are contaminated by the oil, which I have already cleaned with contact cleaner and strong air. My reverse light is also not working, and this is what I was troubleshooting, looking for the reverse switch, which I could not find in the beginning. Luckily through your Forum, I have learned that this is the Transmission Range Switch, found near the Clutch assembly. I heard also a loud sound and strong jerking , when the car the car finally will not go to the reverse mode. I would bring the car to FORD service center eventually for assessment, but I would like to repair the minor problems first by myself. I'm already retired citizen, and could not afford costly repair by Ford. I would appreciate it a lot if someone could help me. Thanks you in advance.

Welcome to the FFO!
Not sure what transmission is in a Fiesta. Has the fluid been changed? Checked for proper level?
Changing the fluid may also fix the oil leak. Which is causing other problems. And low transmission fluid level can cause the transmission to not operate or operate irradically because there is not enough fluid.

A range switch that is bad or poor will cause a lot of problems as the computer is looking for that input and is not getting that signal. Likely why the PRND is not working.

Thanks for the reply. From pictures I have seen on the internet, the transmission on my car is probably an MK7, and the car is scheduled for its yearly engine change oil, and will also include the gear oil change as per the operation manual recommendation. I will order the Transmission Range Switch online, but before I do that I will again check the sensor with an ohmeter to check for short or open on the terminals. There is another sensor or switch near the range switch, please see the picture attached(white color case), I am just wondering what that part is, and could be also cause of the problem.

The transmission does not need to be in any specific gear to remove or install the electrical connector. That connector does need to be connected for proper operation.

Thank you again for your reply. I have not remove the transmission range sensor yet. I have only done a resistance test. I'm getting a very small resistance between pin 1 and 4, and pin 5 and pin 9; and no resistance/open on all the other combinations on the pins(starting with the big pin as pin no.1, going clockwise and ending with the small pin as pin no. 9). Attached is the picture of the TRS and the type of connector for the TRS, which I could not find the information regarding its pin configuration, and technical specification on the internet. Do you think pin 1 and 4 , and pin 5 and 9 are shorted, and my TRS is defective? I have just received my new OBD2 scanner KONNWEI KW310 and tried it today, with the car running on Park mode, the scanner does not indicate any fault. I will try it again tomorrow with the car on Drive mode. My next move will be to buy a new battery, and change the engine oil and gear oil.

Not having access to a shop manual or a wiring diagram it is difficult to say. anything about the switch.
The engine control system operates on 5 volts.
Most of the time the diagnosis is based on codes generated.
I am not aware of resistance readings for any engine control parts. A wiring diagram would give data regarding which pins are connected in different positions
